Men’s Vintage Cufflinks Great for a Holiday Gift

Gorgeous Retro Modern Jewelry: Great for Holiday Gifts!

At Peter Suchy Jewelers, we specialize in vintage, estate and antique jewelry and one of the eras we love most is the Retro Modern period. This era of jewelry was tops from 1935 to 1945. Jewelry in the Retro Modern era was three-dimensional and included sculptural designs. It was also the time for bows, unique folds, colored gold and jewelry leaning toward floral tones. In addition, large step cut gemstones were found in rings of the period. 

Here, we look at some of our favorite vintage jewelry pieces from the Retro Modern period and we bet some of these unique pieces will make great stocking stuffers—or really make her happy with an exquisitely wrapped box under the Christmas Tree!

Vintage 1935 Lavender Amethyst Pink Gold Ring

 

 

This Retro Deco 5.25 carat lavender amethyst 14k pink gold ring excellently portrays the use of colored gold and a large gemstone set right in the middle—so important to this jewelry period. The ring is circa 1935 and is a size 5-1/2, yet very sizeable. What’s more, on Peter Suchy’s now famous pink gold scale of 1 to 10, the pink gold in this vintage ring scores and eight!

Vintage Rose Gold Old European Cut Diamond Earrings

These earrings really show the sculpture design influencesof the Retro Modern period. Circa 1945ish, these earrings boast 2 European cut diamonds with a total carat weight of .50 and 20 old European cut diamonds weighing .60 carats. The length of these earrings is 1-1/4-inches from top to bottom and the delicate lines of the pink gold swirl into a stunning  design.

Vintage Pink and White Gold Flower Pierced Earrings

 

Again colored gold (pink and white gold) were used to design these flower earrings. We believe the designer is Forestner, circa 1935-1940. The gold tested from 10k to 12k pink and white gold and the floral influence of these earrings was also standard for the Retro Modern period.

Estate Pink and Green Gold Moonstone Ruby Pendant

 

This 1940s pink and green gold moonstone ruby pendant is handmade. The pink gold stems lead to green gold leaves which complement the bluish, clear moonstones and red genuine rubies nicely. The wheat chain is 16-inches and is also made using pink gold. Excellent condition and again represents the varying use of colored gold in the Retro Modern era.

Retro Late Deco Pink Gold Diamond Swirl Earrings

 

Circa 1940-1950, these 18k pink gold 1.33 carat diamond swirl earringsoffer the sculpture and 3D-effect popular in the Retro Modern period. These earrings are one-inch from top to bottom and there are 46 full cut diamonds and on Peter Suchy’s pink gold scale, these earrings score a eight!
