Easter Morn

For I remember it is Easter morn,
And life and love and peace are all new born.

Welcome Spring!

The first day of Spring, and everything is beautiful!
And Spring arose on the garden fair,
Like the Spirit of Love felt everywhere;
And each flower and herb on Earth's dark breast
rose from the dreams of its wintry rest.

~Percy Bysshe Shelley

March is here . . .

"The March wind roars
Like a lion in the sky,
And makes us shiver
As he passes by.
When winds are soft,
And the days are warm and clear,
Just like a gentle lamb,
Then spring is here."

Valentine Memories

Grandma's book of Valentines
Rekindles memory's flame,
Of days when she was just a girl
And life a happy game.

Each lace-edged card a getting bears
From friends of long ago,
Girls in gingham dresses
And that “special” Sunday beau.

It brings a twinkle to her eye,
Dissolving lines of age,
As we sit in the lamplight
And turn each well worn page.

It makes me kind of wonder
If perhaps some distant day,
A grandchild shall sit at my side
And leaf each page this way.

‘Cause I could sit for hours,
There at my grandma's knee,
And listen to the stories
That the Valentines set free.

A book of antique Valentines
That reaches black in time
To tell the tales of yesteryear
In illustrated rhyme.

A Day of Thanksgiving

"Our Father, fill our hearts, we pray,

With gratitude Thanksgiving Day;

For food and raiment Thou dost give,

That we in comfort here may live."

S-P-O-O-K-Y

Witches flying past on broomsticks,
Black cats leaping here and there,
White-robed spooks on every corner,
Mournful moaning in the air,

Goblins peering out of windows,
Spirit-things that rap and run--
But don’t be scared—it’s just October,
Having one last hour of fun!!

Autumn Scene

Upon the hills the giant trees
with color were ablaze,
Like smoke from smoldering embers
rose the last October haze.
All silent and magnificent
I fancied I could see
The Master Artist
touching up some solitary tree,
But the glory of the landscape
was a flash of crimson flame
At the bottom of the picture
where the painter signs his name.

Now I cannot speak the language
of the men who paint and draw,
And with technical precision
can’t describe the scene I saw.
All I know is that a picture
was unrolled for me to see,
And the highlights and the shadows
seemed just what they ought to be.
But the gorgeous burst of color
in the foreground caught my eye,
And I knew it made the landscape,
though I couldn’t say just why.

It struck me as peculiar,
where an earthly painter signs,
The Master Artist splashed His name
in tangled shrubs and vines.
And as I stepped up closer
I discovered and was glad
He had given that touch of splendor
to the poorest stuff He had.
To the common things in summer
which man scarcely sees at all
He had given the place of honor
and the glory of the fall.

A New Chapter . . .

"It is time to open a new chapter in life,
and to explore a larger centre."~  quote by Lillion Russell

Today I made the announcement to retire after 28 years with a great company.  Twenty four of those years were in marketing--a truly wonderful job.  However, beginning January 1, I will focus on making art and all the other things I love to do. How sweet is that!

Labor Day . . .

Always Finish

If a task is once begun,
Never leave it till it's done.
Be the labor great or small,
Do it well or not at all.

Remembering on this day . . .

These heroes are dead.  They died for liberty - they died for us.  They are at rest.  They sleep in the land they made free, under the flag they rendered stainless, under the solemn pines, the sad hemlocks, the tearful willows, and the embracing vines.  They sleep beneath the shadows of the clouds, careless alike of sunshine or of storm, each in the windowless Place of Rest.  Earth may run red with other wars - they are at peace.  In the midst of battle, in the roar of conflict, they found the serenity of death.  I have one sentiment for soldiers living and dead:  cheers for the living; tears for the dead.

~Robert G. Ingersoll

I am an artist
a creator each day,
In all that I do
In all that I say.

In darkness comes light
showing the way,
to create what I please
on my journey each day.

I'm a writer, a poet
a painter much more,
from music to song
each day I do soar.

Gliding through the heavens
love all about,
the artist within
floats upward and out.

Surrounded by angels
leading the way,
to that place within
where peace lives each day.

In the stillness a voice
so softly descends,
bringing forth the artist
the artist within.

When April steps aside for May,
Like diamonds all the rain-drops glisten;
Fresh violets open every day;
To some new bird each hour we listen.

St. Pat's Day Wishes . . .

May love and laughter light your days,

and warm your heart and home.
May good and faithful friends be yours,
wherever you may roam.
May peace and plenty bless your world
with joy that long endures.
May all life's passing seasons
bring the best to you and yours!

Happy Valentine's Day!

O my Luve's like a red, red rose
That's newly sprung in June;
O my Luve's like the melodie
That's sweetly played in tune.

As fair art thou, my bonnie lass,
So deep in luve am I;
And I will luve thee still, my dear,
Till a' the seas gang dry:

Till a' the seas gang dry, my dear,
And the rocks melt wi' the sun;
I will luve thee still, my dear,
While the sands o' life shall run.

And fare thee weel, my only Luve,
And fare thee weel awhile!
And I will come again, my Luve,
Tho' it ware ten thousand mile.

Happy New Year!

I am the New Year.
I am an unspoiled page in your book of time.
I am your next chance at the art of living.
I am your opportunity to practice what you have learned
about life during the last twelve months.
All that you sought and didn't find is hidden in me,
waiting for you to search it out with more determination.
All the good that you tried for and didn't achieve,
is mine to grant when you have fewer conflicting desires.
All that you dreamed but didn't dare to do;
All that you hoped but did not will;
All the faith that you claimed, but did not have . . .
These slumber lightly, waiting to be awakened
by the touch of a strong purpose.
I am your opportunity to renew your allegiance
to Him who said, "Behold, I make all things new."
I am the new year.

The 12 Days of After Christmas?

The 12 Days after Christmas*

The First day after Christmas
my true love and I had a fight.
And so I chopped the Pear Tree down
and burnt it just for spite.
Then with a single cartridge
I shot that blasted Partridge.
My true love gave to me.

The second day after Christmas
I pulled on the old rubber gloves
and very gently wrung the necks,
of both the Turtle Doves.
My true love gave to me.

The third day after Christmas
my mother caught the croup,
I had to use the Three French Hens,
to make some chicken soup.
The Four Calling Birds
were a big mistake
for their language was obscene.
The Five Golden Rings
were completely fake
they turned my fingers green
My true love gave to me.

The sixth day after Christmas
the Six Laying Hens wouldn't lay,
so I gave the whole darn gaggle,
to the RSPCA.
My true love gave to me.

On the seventh day after Christmas
what a mess I found
All Seven of the Swimming Swans
had gone and bloomin drowned.
My true love gave to me.

The eighth day after Christmas
before they could suspect.
I bundled up the Eight Maids-a-Milking,
Nine ladies Dancing, Ten Lords a-Leaping,
Eleven Pipers Piping and Twelve Drummers Drumming
( well actually, I kept one of the drummers )
and sent them back collect.
My true love gave to me

I wrote my true love,
"We are through, Love."
and I said in so many words,
" Furthermore, your Christmas gifts
were for the birds."

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

It isn't the tinsel
That causes the glow,
Or colored lights shining
On new-fallen snow,
Nor cards with warm greetings --
Though lovely they are --
And, no, not the gleam of
A trembling star
That causes a Christmas
To bloom in the heart
And prepares the spirit
A new year to start.

It's what one is feeling
And then something more:
A Prince-of-Peace caring
That opens the door
To those who are weary,
Or hungry and cold.
It's sharing the story
That never grows old.
It's knowing and showing
Good will to all men
That starts hearts to glowing
With Christmas again.
