I love this!

Today I got a package from Creative Play Stamps.  I was so excited--my new Sizzix die was inside!
This is what it looks like on the package
This is what it looks like cut out in canvas
This is what it looks like finished!!  I love it!
I colored it with Glimmer Mist "Sunshine,"
added a Tim Holtz button, and added some
Prima leaves leftover from another project.

Butterfly Book

I am just now getting around to posting the Butterfly book I made when Tammy  (Tammy Tutterow) taught at Scrapbook Generation in April. This was the Made-From-Scratch Butterfly Book I posted a few weeks ago.  It was such a fun class.  Here is my book . . .

Tammy used the Butterfly Garden Collection by Pink Paislee for this book.  The entire collection is beautiful!  The class kit included the collection of papers, the 88-piece ephemera pack, buttons, and lots of other goodies.  I picked up a few extra sheets of paper after the class, and another ephemera pack later on to play with.

(Individual page to show detail.)
I trimmed the cut-out with some scraps of the Sticky-back Canvas for fun.  The rosette was made from scraps, and the leaves were left over from another project.

(Individual pages to show detail.)

The page on the left has a lift-up flap with a little butterfly charm, leaving a full page underneath for text or photos--actually it was supposed to be on the previous page, but I obviously did it backwards.  (I put butterflies on the page with missing flap.) This is art--right?.  The next page features a cleverly designed (by Tammy) little flap.  Really cute.

(Individual pages to show detail)

(Individual page to show detail.)
I cut out 2 butterflies from the 12 X 12 papers and layered it for a little extra touch.

The butterfly serves as a latch that opens up to a double-page spread.  Tammy designed all the cool templates for this made-from-scratch book!

The page on the right has a large pocket for holding some larger things.  I used it for the butterfly poem.  A copy of the poem is displayed below.

The back cover was really special because I got it on upside-down.  It might have gone unnoticed except it was text!  I glued the birds from the ephemera pack over the evidence and it looked great!

Not shown is a poem I added after the photos were taken. It is called The Butterfly by Richard Netherland Cook.  Please give credit to the author if you use this poem in your book.

"The Butterfly with graceful wings,
Beauty into the garden brings.
To wild away the many hours,
Fluttering about the garden flowers.

A flower crown its' resting place,
Spreading wings of fragile lace.
Roving through a summer day,
Flower to flower in a carefree way.

Taking to a blissful flight,
To kiss the Jasmine in pure delight.
To flit and flutter, float and hide,
Among the flowers far and wide.

Special, beautiful, soaring up high,
My delicate, colorful butterfly.
About the garden the rounds it makes,
Sweet nectar from the flower  it takes.

Now answering to a beckoned call
Far beyond the garden wall,
Against a scene of bright sunlight,
It flutters away in silent flight. "

Remembering on this day . . .

These heroes are dead.  They died for liberty - they died for us.  They are at rest.  They sleep in the land they made free, under the flag they rendered stainless, under the solemn pines, the sad hemlocks, the tearful willows, and the embracing vines.  They sleep beneath the shadows of the clouds, careless alike of sunshine or of storm, each in the windowless Place of Rest.  Earth may run red with other wars - they are at peace.  In the midst of battle, in the roar of conflict, they found the serenity of death.  I have one sentiment for soldiers living and dead:  cheers for the living; tears for the dead.

Product share: Collage Couture by Julie Nutting

This week I received my copy of Julie Nutting's new book Collage Couture:  Techniques for Creating Fashionable Art.  When I first saw it advertised on Amazon, I thought it might be a book I would be interested in -- however, I didn't know what to expect.  Some books are like a movie trailer: what you see looks good, but sometimes it is disappointing when you see the whole movie.  This book lives up to it's preview pages and MORE!  It is 128 pages packed with techniques, patterns, and literally step-by-step details on each project.

Below are some random pages from the book to give you an idea what to expect.  Not great photos from my camera, but good enough to see the excellent content.

I don't really know Julie, but here is a link to her blog if you would like to read about her and see some of her amazing art.  http://julienuttingdesigns.blogspot.com/

ENJOY!

I was going to save the world today, but . . .

. . . something shiny caught my eye instead.

The shiny stuff in the photo is mine.  I love old costume jewelry--even collected it at one time. I don't have much of it anymore--just a few pieces.  I was looking through it this morning and thought you might enjoy seeing it, too. Click on the "Antique Jewelry" tab.

Antwerp, BELGIUM – A newly discovered flower species from the northernmost province of The Garden of Adin will be formally introduced here by local and international environmental groups.

Believed to be found only in The Garden of Adin, the flower species, called 'Chrysanthemum Narcissisticum Elkanum', was discovered recently in the province’s mountain area by noted Adin's botanist Elkan Wijnberg of The Adin Conservation International, after whom it is named.

I am an artist
a creator each day,
In all that I do
In all that I say.

In darkness comes light
showing the way,
to create what I please
on my journey each day.

I'm a writer, a poet
a painter much more,
from music to song
each day I do soar.

Gliding through the heavens
love all about,
the artist within
floats upward and out.

Surrounded by angels
leading the way,
to that place within
where peace lives each day.

In the stillness a voice
so softly descends,
bringing forth the artist
the artist within.

Art share . . .

I wanted to share a beautiful memory box with you today.  It was made by my friend, Dilla, in memory of her late husband.  The box is filled with photos and treasures representing the things he loved the most.

The shadow box was  purchased from Hobby Lobby.  Dilla
covered the background  with a "patriotic" design scrapbook
paper.

There has quite a bit of glare from the glass in these photos, but you
can get a good idea of some of the things she placed in the box.
Another close up shows some of Tim's awards and badges,
a couple of his sermons, his & Dilla's wedding photo, library card,
driver's license, etc.

This is box is a collection of memories.  Each piece represents a wonderful part of their life together.

I was thinking of several boxes I would like to do {grin}.

Free vintage images

I am just now getting around to reading some of the blogs I follow and found something you might be interested in.   Susie Jefferson posted some really cool vintage label images on her blog.  They are from her own personal collections (please see her "for use" guidelines).  Below is a photo of one of them.

Nice, huh?  There are others, too.  Here is the link http://1stfloorflatfreebies.blogspot.com/

Getting inky

Just had to share these photos of my granddaughter, Emma Tutterow, getting all inky.  She is seven years old, loves stamping, doing page layouts--and such a charmer!  I have an idea she will be making a mark in the creative world some day.   You can read the entire post on Tammy 's website.

Just another day until . . .

It has been another hectic day at work.  Or it seemed that way until I got home and saw a package from Red Lead Paper Works.  I love their collage sheets, rubber stamps (designed by owners Chris Schwartz & Sharon Wisely), and all the unique trinkets and vintage goodies in their store.  The package just made my day perfect--I wanted to grab it up and escape to the studio and just play!

Chris & Sharon always tie up the smaller items with a pretty bow.

Below are a couple of their Photo Rubber Stamps (exclusive to Red Lead).  I didn't get them with this order, but got them in a previous order.  The detail on these stamps is incredible!

Antwerp, May 15 - In a recent study, Adin's Chief Ornithologist (bird expert) Mr. Elkan Wijnberg proposed several new approaches as how to attract more birds to The Garden of Adin. Discussions are still running about the effectiveness of some of his ideas.

Remembering my Mom on Mother's Day

Mary Stewart, 1919-1966

This is a photo of my mom and her sister, Donna Jean, sometime in the early 1940's.  I always thought my mom and aunt were so beautiful in this photo.  That is a big red purse my mom is carrying.  I have always liked pretty jewelry and purses--just like her.  She didn't have many pieces of jewelry, but she would let my sister and I wear it (when we got older) for special occasions.  I felt so beautiful wearing her special necklace and earrings.  When she passed away, this and some earrings we had made for her were in a little tin box.  The threads have rotted and a chunk of the necklace is gone, but to me it is a priceless treasure.  Some day, I will duplicate it in her memory and pass it on to someone to wear "for a very special occasion."
