Caribbean Charm Necklace

I have been having so much fun getting ready for this Caribbean Cruise with Tim Holtz.  FINALLY, it is almost here!  This is not my first cruise, but it is the first time that I have been involved in the pre-cruise activities. I joined a Yahoo group set up for the cruise and have gotten to know some of the creative people we will be with.    Some of these fellow cruisers have been on every one of Tim's cruises--how cool is that!  I signed up to do a Charm Swap with one of the groups, so I am excited about that as well.

I wanted to make a necklace with some of the "beach-related" components I have been saving for a long time.  So this is what I ended up with.  I wasn't sure if I liked it when I first got everything hung on the chain because there were more charms I wanted to make.  I had originally thought about making things tied directly to the cruise, but loved the shells and the turquoise and purple beads so much, I just kept making them! I might still add some map beads, photos, etc.  We'll see how I feel about it later.

The clear vial will have sand in it.  I put four on the necklace so I can get a pinch of sand or tiny shells from the beach at Cocoa Beach, Cococay, St. Thomas, and St. Maarten.

A New Chapter . . .

"It is time to open a new chapter in life,
and to explore a larger centre."~  quote by Lillion Russell

Today I made the announcement to retire after 28 years with a great company.  Twenty four of those years were in marketing--a truly wonderful job.  However, beginning January 1, I will focus on making art and all the other things I love to do. How sweet is that!

Caribbean Charm Necklace

On a previous post, I displayed some of the charms I am making for what I call my Caribbean charm necklace.  Here is an update.  I have a few more charms that I am working on and then I will start assembling it.

It looks like a lot of charms, doesn't it?  It will take quite a few to get the look I want.  I think it is going to be fun to wear.  Earrings, too, perhaps.

Some of these charms are actually made of "found" pieces of abalone and other shells.  They already had natural holes in them so all I had to do was add some wire so they would hang pretty.

Stay tuned.  More photos to come

Creative Exploration to the Caribbean with Tim Holtz

Today I mailed my charms off for the charm swap on the upcoming cruise.  This is only the 2nd time I have done a swap, so this was pretty exciting to me.

I made 35 in all.  They had to be made from something of Tim's, which was easy.  The first swap I ended up working on while away on business, and I was just not sure what all to do. I didn't do any "packaging" or anything, but for this swap I did.

This is one of the charms I made. I did several styles--and all were different. I used a quote by Ruth Ann Schabaker "Each day comes bearing it's own gifts.  Untie the ribbons."  I then attached the charm with a ribbon.

Labor Day . . .

Always Finish

If a task is once begun,
Never leave it till it's done.
Be the labor great or small,
Do it well or not at all.
