G.B. Heron & Co. Jewelry: A Gallery of Goldsmiths

At the heart of G.B. Heron & Company is Jeff Cassels. He entered the jewelry business as a wholesale craftsman for a wide variety of Maryland jewelers. His clients were pleased with the pieces he created and expertly fashioned. Not surprisingly, this artisan yearned for the opportunity to market his pieces under the name of his own company.

After about seven years, Cassels decided to design and market his own creations and cut ties with the wholesalers. As a result, a new company joined the grouping of exquisite jewelry power houses in November 1988.

The location for G.B. Heron & Company remains in Salisbury, Maryland although the success of the business has enabled the in-demand goldsmith to move from a small building to a much larger production center and store. Hiring other successful goldsmiths, the company currently specializes in jewelry repair, fine craftsmanship, custom designs and the creation of unique lines that bespeak the expertise of the artisans.

Now, with more than two decades in the jewelry design business, the company has established itself a major player in the crafting of unique gold jewelry. Currently there are six distinct lines.

  1. Designer Jewelry. The goldsmiths show off their intricate detail work by using carving techniques, beadwork and realism in design.
  2. Zealandia. Cameo work meets the creative addition of settings and the wildlife motif. Imagine the swirling ocean waters and winds as you behold turtles and egrets.
  3. High School Logo Bracelets. Combine these logo tops with bracelets from another collection.
  4. Changeables by the Touch. Vary the look of your jewelry by investing in bracelets with exchangeable tops.
  5. Convertibles by Le Stage. Mix and match these tops with those from the Touch collection. Choose slightly thicker or thinner bracelets to suit your mood and the occasion.
  6. Jewel Pops. The ultimate fine arts ring begins with a gorgeous setting and ends with multiple diminutive stones. Of course, these pops can also perform in a necklace, brooch or pendant.

Versatility is clearly the one design element that sets apart G.B. Heron & Company from the competition. For those who have had problems with committing to specific pieces of jewelry, these artisans have discovered the perfect jewelry design compromise. Wear a gorgeous centerpiece as a ring today and a pendant tomorrow. Build an ensemble of wearable art with bracelet tops and complementary earrings.

It would be a mistake to consider this company as featuring a major artisan and several helpers. Instead, the five goldsmiths on site are artisans in their own rights. As such, they use their expertise to create stunning pieces that consistently wow customers and those who catch a glimpse of someone wearing the jewelry. Due to the high artistic level of the designs, it is easy to pinpoint the handiwork of true goldsmithing experts.
