Our Favorite Vintage Sterling Silver and Silver Jewelry

Although gold and platinum are very common setting materials for vintage jewelry, the use of sterling silver is somewhat less widespread. Silversmiths define this material as an alloy of silver that must contain precisely 92.5 percent of silver and a remaining 7.5 percent of another metal. Examples include platinum, zinc or the much more common copper.

If you have been looking for silver jewelry but have not found a good selection of available pieces, look no further than Peter Suchy Jewelers. We have a sizable inventory of silver jewelry. Here are our favorite pieces.

Victorian Gold and Silver Pin with Sapphire and Diamonds

This Victorian pin was made between 1840 and 1860. The base material is 14k gold but the top features silver. An oval sapphire is the centerpiece. It weighs in at 2.0cts. A total of 42 old-mine-cut diamonds encrust the top of the pin. Intricate detail work draws the eye to the center of the pin. This is a pin for every occasion.

Silver and Gold Cable Ring with Iolite

The cocktail ring’s setting is partially made from 14k solid yellow gold. This metal is twisted together with silver for a rope-like look. A total of six square-cut iolites bring purple and blue colors to the table.

Yellow Gold and Silver Art Deco Pendant

We date this striking pendant to the 1920s. The setting material is 18k yellow gold that has been mixed with silver. An untreated round aqua weighing .76cts is the center piece. Eight diamonds – four of which are full-cut – weigh in at .40cts. The geometric shapes of the Art Deco period are beautifully displayed in this piece.

Georg Jensen Bird Pin

Denmark’s designer Georg Jensen fashioned this sterling silver bird pin. Weighing 11.9 grams, this whimsical piece features a natural patina that adds plenty of character to the piece. The silver has been worked carefully to mimic the movement associated with a bird in flight.

Georg Jensen Silver Bracelet with Moonstones

Nothing highlights the nature of silver better than the moonstone. Designer Georg Jensen knows this quite well. This bracelet is fashioned from sterling silver. It features four oval moonstones weighing 3.00cts and four round moonstones weighing 1.60cts. The silversmith has provided the illusion of feathers, leaves and flowers with the silver material.
