Larter & Sons Jewelry: Offering Amazing Designs Since 1865

The history of Larter & Sons Jewelry began in 1865 with the founding of Larter, Elcox & Co. When Frederick Larter bought out all interested parties in 1905, Larter & Sons was formed. In the 1930s, Larter decided to sell a majority interest in the company to George Schuetz, Sr., who then took over the operation of the jewelry business. George Schuetz, Jr. entered the business in the 1960s. Taking over in the 1970s, he handed the reigns to Larter & Sons to Stephen Schuetz in 1998.

Stephen deserves the credit for moving many of the jewelry-related operations back in-house. For example, he would add a foundry that now alloys and manufactures the platinum as well as the gold used for Larter & Sons’ jewelry. This gives the company unique control over the quality of the raw materials as well as the finished products that go into the various jewelry pieces. No longer tethered to suppliers, this move had a huge impact on the quality and cost of the jewelry pieces the company produces.

Larter & Sons Jewelry has a solid reputation in the business. The Gemological Institute of America named a jewelry design contest prize after George Schuetz, Sr. The company’s various collections showcase seasoned artisanship as well as contemporary features and designs. Currently, the shopper may choose from seven noted collections.

Wedding bands. A wide selection of bands makes this collection affordable for any shopper. There are 14K or 18K white, yellow and rose gold bases. Other options include 24K gold as well as platinum. Millgraining personalizes the designs.

Solitaires.Classic engagement rings sometimes need a modern flair. Designed with an eye on pairing this ring with a wedding band, it is easy to mix and match the designs.

Signet rings.Famous for its die struck process, the company’s signet rings have a pleasantly dense feel. Lines are crisp and the finishes exquisite. Since the Larter & Sons Jewelry Company favors this process, it is possible to add intricate carvings to the ring’s surface without compromising the piece’s integrity and finish.

Ladies’ gemstones.Combining an assortment of available styles, there are gemstone pieces that suit anyone’s taste. Plenty of combinations mix metals, finishes and gemstones. The resulting collection of available pieces is breathtaking and uniquely varied.

Men’s gemstones. Larter & Sons employs a similar approach to men’s gemstones. Yet here, there is the challenge to keep the finished designs looking strongly masculine. The experts have chosen to focus on elegant lines and sophisticated finishes to achieve this look.

Earrings. Some designs are whimsical while others have a distinctly classy chic. Currently there are 67 different styles in this line. They all bespeak the wearer’s desire for sophistication and quality.

Cuff links. A must-have for timeless formal wear, Larter & Sons once again favors the die struck process for creating elegant pieces with gorgeous finishes.
