Our Favorite Old Mine Cut Rings

Old mine cuts have a special place in the hearts of jewelry collectors. Popular after 1830 and considered the height of fashion until the turn of the century, this look paved the way for the modern brilliant cut that is now a common sight in jewelers’ cases. While it may be difficult to find authentic 1830s old-mine-cut gemstones for your rings, you do have the option of finding some modern pieces that rely on the old cut for a vintage feel.

Peter Suchy knows that this is the type of cut that you probably still want to add to your ring collection. We have quite a few that we simply love to show to you.

Men’s Diamond Ring

The old mine cut is perfect for use in a uniquely masculine setting. This men’s ring is made of 14k solid white gold. Made sometime during the 1950s, the gold has been polished to an attractive satin finish. The focal point is an old-European-cut diamond weighing .50cts. Two round old-mine-cut diamonds weighing .20cts accentuate the classic look and feel of this piece.

Heart-Shaped Gold Ring with Diamonds

The setting for this heart-shaped ring is made of 14k solid gold. Utilizing the pave set, the artisan making this ring included 11 old-mine-cut diamonds. Their weight is .95cts. This ring becomes a focal point of your gold jewelry ensemble and calls for complementing earrings.

Victorian Gold Ring with Sapphires and Platinum

If you are thinking of proposing marriage, consider this solitaire in a setting of 18k yellow gold worked with platinum. We date this ring to have been made around 1900. There is a good chance that it comes from Great Britain. It features an emerald-cut sapphire weighing .40cts. Surrounded by eight old-mine-cut diamonds weighing .20cts, the piece is perfect for daily wear or special occasions.

Victorian Pink Gold Ring with Diamond

We date this Victorian ring to about 1870. It features 14k pink gold and a colorless old-mine-cut 0.52cts diamond. The pink color of the ring is stunning and sets a striking counterpoint to the brilliance of the eye-clean stone. This would be a perfect present for any special occasion.

Platinum Vintage Ring with Diamond

A vintage ring, we believe that this piece was made in France sometime before the 1850s. The main stone weighs 2.08cts and features the old-mine cut. There are distinct Art Deco influences in the design of this jewel. Notice also the additional 14 diamonds weighing .60cts, which accentuate the piece with baguette or round cuts. This is a perfect anniversary present.
